Kota Kinabalu: Sabah voters have clearly expressed a preference for leadership grounded in local realities, said PKR Deputy Secretary-General Aidi Amin Yazid.
He said the results do not reflect a rejection of Malaysia, but rather reinforce how the federation should function.
Citing views from Professor Dr Phar Kim Beng of the International Islamic University of Malaysia, Aidi said the outcome underscores voters’ desire for leaders who understand local life and can work effectively with the Federal Government.
“The strong performance of Warisan reflects a political awakening among voters and ensures the State Assembly can hold Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s administration accountable,” he said in a statement, Monday.
Aidi said voting patterns may have been influenced by factors such as voter fatigue, ethnic considerations and the role of new young voters.
He added that after years of political instability due to previous missteps, Sabahans have given the Chief Minister a renewed mandate to address their needs.
He noted that campaigns driven solely by seasonal political visits are increasingly viewed with scepticism.
“The results demonstrate a process of realization — identifying gaps and adjusting actions with renewed conviction,” he said.
Aidi said the outcome should not be seen as a rejection of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, but rather a call to re-evaluate how Sabah and the Federal Government work together under the Madani framework.
