TUARAN: GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (
pic) retained the Sulaman seat with a commanding majority of 8,919 votes in a five-cornered contest at the 17th Sabah Election.
The result, announced at 11.46pm at Dewan Seri Sulaman, saw Hajiji secure 10,639 votes, comfortably ahead of BN’s Dr Shahnon Rizal Thaijuddin with 1,720 votes and Warisan’s Moktar Hussin with 1,383 votes.
In Pantai Dalit, GRS’s Datuk Jasnih Daya also held his seat after polling 8,306 votes and finishing 3,465 votes ahead of BN’s Alfian Sambas, who received 4,841 votes.
GRS information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai kept the Kiulu seat with 4,316 votes and a 1,437-vote majority in a crowded eight-way contest led by Star’s Terence Sinti and Upko’s Joisin Romut.
In Tamparuli, Tuaran MP Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau of Upko unseated the incumbent GRS representative by securing 8,247 votes and a 2,556-vote majority against GRS's Bonaventure Boniface, who garnered 5,691 votes.
