KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) has completed checks on all polling equipment ahead of tomorrow’s 17th Sabah Legislative Assembly General Election.
EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the inspection covered ballot boxes, indelible ink, ballot papers and other materials to ensure everything is in proper working condition.
He said the equipment had been distributed to all Chief Polling Officers for use across the 882 polling centres and 3,559 voting streams.
A total of 28,533 election workers will be on duty, with 1,742,934 registered voters expected to cast their ballots.
Khairul Shahril said additional ballot boxes would be used in streams with larger voter numbers or many contesting candidates due to the larger ballot paper size.
He advised voters not to wait until the last minute and instead follow the recommended voting time shown in the MySPR Semak application.
Voters were reminded to bring their identification card and voting details to assist election clerks in verifying their names.
He encouraged the public to check their polling information early through the MySPR Semak portal or hotline to avoid delays tomorrow.
Employers were also urged to allow reasonable time off for workers to vote, as provided for under the Election Offences Act 1954.
Khairul Shahril reminded all parties that the official campaign period ends at 11.59pm tonight and no further campaigning, including online content, is permitted after that.
He reiterated that voters are prohibited from wearing party-branded clothing or carrying campaign materials inside polling centres to avoid being denied entry.
He added that mobile phones are not allowed inside voting streams and must be placed in a designated area until a voter completes the voting process.
The EC hoped all parties would comply with election laws and ethics to ensure a smooth and peaceful polling day for Sabahans.
