Kota Kinabalu: DAP National Deputy Chairman cum Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said Sabah today stands on stronger footing because of collective effort and a stable GRS-PH leadership.
Nga pointed out the unprecedented development allocations secured for Sabah, with RM6.9 billion earmarked for 2026 alone.
“This substantial financial backing, supported by the federal Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said, is set to bolster Sabah's infrastructure, essential services, and overall economic development.
In an open letter, he also highlighted Sabah's impressive financial growth, with annual revenue increasing from RM3.59 billion in 2020 to nearly RM6.9 billion in 2024 – a remarkable 90 per cent rise in just four years.
Total collections exceeded RM26 billion from 2021 to 2024, enabling the administration to build reserves exceeding RM8 billion and invest strategically in its people and economy.
Nga noted the significant investments pouring into Sabah, including the RM19 billion green steel manufacturing project in Sipitang, the RM4.2 billion high-quality copper foil manufacturing project, and the RM3 billion solar glass manufacturing project in KKIP and Kudat.
The projects have generated close to 2,000 jobs for Sabah youths.
Infrastructure development has also seen substantial progress, with RM4.89 billion invested in road and infrastructure works from 2021 to 2024.
Nga said Sabah’s road network has expanded from 21,876km to 22,858km.
“Water treatment capacity has increased to 1,630 million litres per day across 90 plants, and 11 new power generation projects with a combined capacity of 1,219 megawatts have been approved with federal support. “
Additionally, he said four Pan Borneo Highway work packages have been completed.
The Mesra SMJ housing scheme, launched in 2022, has provided 7,482 homes for Sabahans, including the completion of the long-abandoned Putera Kiansom housing project, which had been delayed for 23 years.
"With unity and determination, we can build a stronger and more prosperous Sabah for all,” he said.
