LAHAD DATU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi promised a new township in Felda Sahabat if Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates are elected.
Speaking at the Permuafakatan Komuniti Felda Wilayah Sabah programme, Zahid, who also serves as the Minister of Rural and Regional Development and BN chairman, emphasised the importance of aligning with the Madani Government.
He expressed hope for a shift in voter sentiment among Felda Sahabat settlers on Nov 29 (polling day), signalling a resurgence of support for BN in Felda areas.
He announced that a proposal for the new township in Felda Sahabat would be presented to the Cabinet for further discussion.
This proposal, initiated by Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, aims to enhance the development of Felda Sahabat and Lahad Datu.
Zahid acknowledged the existing challenges faced by Felda, including constraints in allocations for infrastructure, education and healthcare.
"The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) has entrusted me to take care of Felda. Indirectly, I am the minister in charge of Felda affairs nationwide," he said, highlighting his commitment to addressing these issues.
In addition to the township proposal, the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) has approved a collaboration between Felda kindergartens and Tabika Kemas (pre-schools) to conduct pre-tahfiz courses throughout the Felda network.
Zahid urged Felda settlers to support BN candidates in the Nov. 29 election, emphasising their support would ensure the extension of the government's development agenda to Felda Sahabat.
