Kota Kinabalu: Veteran Sabah politician Abd Aziz Taip has resigned from all positions in Parti Warisan, including as Supreme Council member and Sipitang Division Chief, citing concerns over the party’s direction under President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
Abd Aziz, known for his vocal stance on the Sabah Foundation Incorporated (SFI) issues during Warisan’s administration, said the decision was after careful consideration of Sabah’s future and current political realities.
“I am joining Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) under the Pakatan Harapan coalition, which I believe offers a clearer and more credible platform to fight for Sabah’s rights in a realistic and comprehensive way,” he said.
He highlighted two main reasons for his move – confidence in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s commitment to Sabah’s 40pc entitlement under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and loss of confidence in Shafie Apdal’s leadership.
“The rhetoric of ‘Save Sabah’ was never translated into meaningful action during Shafie’s tenure. Decisions were often politically motivated rather than on Sabah’s long-term future,” Abd Aziz said.
Warisan Vice President Junz Wong was spotted at the Hyatt venue before Abd Aziz arrived.
“Sabahans deserve progress, stability and dignity. This fight for Sabah’s rights does not end; it begins anew with renewed spirit,” Abd Aziz said.
