Kota Kinabalu: Fourteen graduates of Shell's Projek LINK (Latihan Industri Kimpalan) were celebrated at Kolej Vokasional Likas (KV Likas) last Thursday, marking another milestone for the certified welding programme.

The initiative, a collaboration between Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Limited (SSPC) and KV Likas, aims to strengthen Sabah's pool of industry-ready welding professionals.

Projek LINK is an industry-certified programme designed to offer upskilling opportunities to students who face financial and academic obstacles. Through this initiative, SSPC seeks to produce a competent and qualified workforce for heavy industries such as oil and gas, ship-ping, construction and energy in Sabah.

Since its launch in Sabah in 2019, SSPC has contributed more than RM700,000 to the programme, which has now produced 9o graduates. These talents are trained to meet international welding standards, including ASME IX and AWS, up to the highest complexity levels of 6G and 6GR.

"It's truly rewarding to celebrate our graduates today and extend my warmest congratulations to each of them. I take great pride in SSPC's strong partnership with KV Likas, which has been instrumental in creating employment opportunities, developing globally competitive talent, and driving economic growth within Sabah's local communities. This collaboration also supports the Sabah state government's vision for advancing human capital development in the oil and gas sector," said Alexon Jong, General Manager of SSPC, in his welcoming address.

Projek LINK reflects the strong synergy between the private and public sectors in promoting human capital development. Beyond helping students overcome financial and academic constraints, the programme is designed to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the oil and gas sector.

Apart from Sabah, Shell Malaysia also runs Projek LINK in Miri and Bintulu through partnerships with Kolej Voka-sional Miri (KV Miri) and Kolej Voka-sional Bintulu (KV Bintulu), offering similar pathways for local youth to build technical careers.
