Kota Kinabalu: A frustrated resident in Kolombong has taken to social media to highlight the long-standing rubbish problem in his neighbourhood, directly challenging the 13 candidates contesting the Inanam seat to take action.
In a Facebook post, the resident, Johnny Ting, a lawyer, said he would consider voting for whichever candidate could resolve the issue, which he claimed has been neglected for too long.
The rubbish collection centre which is at Jalan Kilang and located behind a restaurant called 5’s Kitchen and near the True Jesus Church.
From the photos posted, it is evident that the rubbish has not been collected for a long time, leading to an overflow that attracts maggots and insects.
This situation poses serious health risks and could eventually cause sickness, said Johnny.
He also added that the clogged drains have long been overdue for maintenance and remain unattended, becoming an eyesore for people passing through the area, he said in frustration.
His post quickly drew attention online, with growing voter frustration over local infrastructure and cleanliness issues.
The resident’s challenge shows how everyday problems, such as waste management, are becoming central to the election conversation in Inanam.
With 13 contestants vying for the seat, his demand highlights the increasing pressure on candidates to prove their ability to deliver practical solutions to community concerns.
