Kota Kinabalu: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has expressed full support for the Chief Minister’s announcement of new assistance programmes for Sabahans, including monthly aid, extra support for senior citizens, and deposit assistance for first-time homebuyers.
LDP President Datuk Chin Su Phin said the initiatives reflect a responsible effort to ease the burden on families.
“The Chief Minister’s proposal to introduce monthly assistance for ordinary citizens and senior citizens, as well as helping first-time homebuyers cover the five to 10 per cent booking fee, demonstrates a clear focus on improving people’s lives through practical and realistic policies,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Chin said the proposals are backed by ongoing negotiations on Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement with the Federal Government, following the High Court’s affirmation of the state’s constitutional rights.
“This year alone, Sabah received a record RM600 million Special Grant, the highest in our history.
“This shows that Sabah’s financial footing is improving, and future allocations have the potential to be even higher,” he said.
He cautioned that expecting the full 40 per cent entitlement immediately is unrealistic.
“The 40 per cent entitlement is a major fiscal reform. It cannot be completed in a short span of time. Payments will have to be phased over several years, depending on the final financial formula and figures agreed upon,” he said.
Chin noted that higher allocations would allow the State Government to expand people-focused programmes.
“More funds mean greater support for housing, welfare, community development, and long-term improvements for our rakyat. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to uplift Sabahans,” he said.
He defended the proposals against critics, saying they are grounded in verified financial progress and documented federal commitments.
“Responsible leadership means planning based on facts, not political noise.
“Sabahans deserve results, not distractions. LDP supports policies that deliver measurable improvements to people’s lives. These new initiatives reflect real progress, and we stand firmly behind them,” Chin said.
