SEMPORNA: Marine police foiled an attempt to smuggle in contraband via Pulau Tetagan waters, off here, on Monday.
Sabah (Region Four) Marine Acting Commander Supt Jaffri Bidin said acting on a tip-off, a team spotted a suspicious speedboat in the area at 10.05pm.
An inspection of the boat found a local man onboard, suspected involved in smuggling activities.
“Five sacks containing 250 cartons of contraband cigarettes were also found on the boat,” he said, adding the case would be investigated under the Customs Act 1967.
Jaffri said the marine police force would continue to intensify patrol and intelligence to ensure national waters remain safe and clear from smuggling activities.
