SIPITANG: Veteran team Mevec from Lawas emerged champions after collecting five points at the one-day Four-Corner Friendly Football League held at the Sipitang District Council (MDS) field on Sunday.
Beaufort’s SBKK secured second place with four points, followed by OBG from Sipitang in third with three points, while Sipitang-based VS FT finished fourth without earning any points.
The league, jointly organised by SBKK and OBG, featured four participating teams: Mevec (Lawas), OBG (Sipitang), SBKK (Beaufort) and VS FT (Sipitang).
Organising chairman Abdul Rahman said the event not only strengthened ties between players from Sarawak and Sabah but also served as an important preparation platform for the teams ahead of next year’s football tournaments.
The atmosphere grew livelier with the presence of candidates contesting the Sindumin state seat, including Datuk Yamani Hafez Musa (PH), Sani Miasin (PKDM), Independent candidate Abdillah Jalaf, and Dayang Syafiqah, who mingled with spectators at the grandstand.
Cash prizes and hampers were presented by OBG team manager Mohd Khairi Hadi and Abdul Rahman.
