Perikatan Nasional upbeat despite challenge
Yunus said PN has strengthened its position in Sabah after weathering various political challenges, including what he described as betrayal by former allies in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
SANDAKAN: Perikatan Nasional (PN) Sabah Secretary Yunus Nurdin is optimistic about mounting a formidable challenge in the upcoming 17th state election despite acknowledging certain weaknesses.

Yunus, who is also a Bersatu Supreme Council Member, said PN has strengthened its position in Sabah after weathering various political challenges, including what he described as betrayal by former allies in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

“We acknowledge there are weaknesses. The PN has long been established in Sabah, but we were betrayed by our friends in the GRS. However, over the past two years, we managed to establish our presence in almost every division across Sabah,” he said.

He said the party has mobilised its machinery in every division and state constituency it plans to contest, ensuring election preparations are at their best.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
He is confident the PN will deliver major surprises in the State polls, citing growing grassroots support.

“Sabahans are mature in their judgement. They recognise that the PN is the only genuine opposition party fighting for the people’s rights, both in the Peninsula and in Sabah. God willing, there will be surprises in all constituencies we contest under the PN ticket,” he said.

The 17th state election is expected to see fierce competition between the State Government bloc and opposition forces, with the PN seeking to capitalise on grassroots momentum.

Nurdin is among 42 PN candidates contesting in the election and faces a nine-cornered fight in the Gum-Gum constituency.
