PENAMPANG: In an effort to preserve cultural heritage, students and teachers at SK Moyog, a sub-urban primary school, took part in a storytelling session about the legendary tale of Huminodun, recently.

Open to the local community, the event aims to promote cultural exchange and deepen appreciation for local heritage.

Music teacher Boni Wilfred Henry shared how students are being exposed to traditional musical instruments, adding that they recently performed at KDCA during the Harvest Festival celebration.

“Giving our students cultural exposure is important, as it helps them understand and connect with their heritage more deeply,” he said.

“Since 99% of our students come from local communities, they should learn about traditional arts like dance, music, and storytelling. These experiences help them appreciate the value of their traditions even more and strengthen their cultural identity.”

Towards the end, they performed the Sumazau dance, inviting everyone to join in and experience the traditional movement with a sense of joy.

SK Moyog remains dedicated to cultural education, ensuring that Sabah’s rich traditions continue to thrive and be passed down to the students accordingly.
