TAWAU: A total of 29 candidates confirmed contesting in all four seats under the Kalabakan parliamentary constituency for the 17th Sabah Election.
The Kukusan and Sebatik seats have become hotly contested, with each witnessing a 10-cornered contest. Meanwhile, Merotai saw the fewest, with only four contesting, while Tanjung Batu is a five-cornered contest.
The 10 candidates for Kukusan are Ab Rahman Yahya, 61, from Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), Samsiah Usman, 42 (GRS), Chaya Sulaiman, 65 (BN), Mariani Sulaiman, 63 (Anak Negeri), Razik Muyong, 60 (PIS), Ishak Ismail, 58 (PPRS), Francis Lawrence @ Yusof, 58 (PN), Ma’mun Sulaiman, 60 (Warisan), as well as independent candidates Hairul Amin Arif, 48, and Datuk Rina Jainal, 44.
The 10 candidates for Sebatik are Datuk Seri Sahran Untai, 57 (Anak Negeri), Manahing Tinggilani @ Tanggilani, 55 (Warisan), Datuk Hassan A Gani Pg Amir, 55 (GRS), Suhurani Sammani, 65 (PN), Aslan Fadli Samsul Alang, 43 (BN), Datuk Kadri Amat, 68 (Star), Abdul Gaib Aliaman, 51 (PIS), Ismail Idris, 63 (PRS), Abu Bakar Kumun, 58 (PPRS) and independent candidate Husni Frans, 56.
Merotai’s four candidates including Rhyme @ Reymie Kassim, 56, from Parti Impian Sabah (PIS), Hasan Haris, 48 (PN), Sarifuddin Hata, 51 (Warisan) and Datuk Ruji Ubi, 55 (PKR).
The five-cornered contest in Tanjung Batu involves Ayuf Abdul Rahman, 58 (Warisan), Ahmad Dullah, 57 (PN), Samasuddin Yusop, 49 (BN), Zanudin Mingo, 42 (PIS) and Dr. Andi Md Shamsulreezal Dato Mohd Sainal, 38 (GRS).
