KOTA KINABALU: A total of 596 candidates were confirmed to contest all 73 seats in the 17th Sabah State Election after nominations closed at 10am on Saturday.
Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Rahman Harun (pic) said the lineup includes 525 men and 71 women, with all nominations accepted.
The oldest contender, aged 86, is running in Bingkor under Parti Kebangsaan Sabah, while the youngest, aged 24, is standing in Silam for the same party.
Independent hopefuls form the largest group with 74 candidates, followed closely by Warisan with 73 and Parti Impian Sabah with 72, alongside major blocs such as GRS, STAR, BN, PN and KDM.
Multi-cornered battles will dominate the polls, ranging from four-way contests to a record 14 candidates in a single seat.
