KOTA KINABALU: Police have identified 15 hotspots across Sabah ahead of the 17th Sabah Legislative Assembly General Election as a major statewide deployment involving 9,300 personnel comes into force.
Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail said 4,300 officers will be stationed at all 25 nomination centres on Saturday to ensure a smooth and safe process, during a briefing at the City police headquarters with Sabah Police Commissioner Jauteh Dikun.
He said security efforts will be centred in Kota Kinabalu, several east coast districts, key administrative areas and the Yang di-Pertua Negeri’s official premises.
CID teams and Public Order Riot Unit personnel will also reinforce security in locations designated as sensitive.
Khalid reminded political supporters, NGOs and groups to avoid provocation and misinformation as Sabah enters a critical phase of the election period.
