Kota Kinabalu: Former Kapayan Assemblywoman Datuk Jannie Lasimbang said the Federal Cabinet’s decision not to appeal the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruling affirming Sabah’s right to 40 per cent of revenue collected by Federal from the State paves the way for immediate negotiations with the Sabah Government to address technical matters highlighted in the judgment.
Jannie said the decision demonstrates the importance of partnership built on trust and respect between the Federal and State Governments.
“Throughout my years in office, I have never faltered in standing firm to uphold the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and Sabah’s rights.
“To fully realise these rights, we must continue to cultivate principled leaders who can work confidently and cooperatively with our Federal counterparts,” she said in a statement, Wednesday.
“Real courage is staying committed when it is no longer easy to do so,” she said, adding she respects the decisions of those who have chosen to leave the coalition.
“In politics, people will come and go. What matters most is how we part ways—with respect and gratitude—knowing that service to the people must continue regardless of political direction,” she said.
Jannie said Sabah’s progress has always been driven by dialogue and partnership rather than division.
She noted that many long-standing issues affecting Sabah are now receiving serious attention through consistent and strategic engagement, leading to meaningful progress on key matters related to MA63 and State autonomy.
