PENAMPANG: Perikatan Nasional (PN) today unveiled its line-up of 41 candidates for Sabah’s 17th State Election, featuring 90 per cent new faces and strong representation of youth, professionals, and women.
PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the line-up includes 33 from Bersatu, five from PAS, and three from Gerakan. Five candidates, or 15 per cent, are women.
“Most candidates are young, professionally qualified, and have gone through a strict selection process to ensure we field capable leaders,” he said at a press conference after the announcement at the International Technology and Commercial Centre.
Bersatu leaders Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin identified constituencies best suited for PN to contest after extensive ground studies.
Among the PAS candidates is Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan, contesting Karambunai, one of the few familiar faces in an otherwise fresh line-up.
Muhyiddin said PN, if given the mandate, will tackle Sabah’s long-standing issues such as infrastructure, electricity, water supply, and poverty with a clear short-, medium-, and long-term strategy.
On MA63, he reaffirmed PN’s support for Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement and stressed unity under PN’s single election symbol.
“PAS is contesting only five seats. We work as one team under PN," he said.
