KOTA KINABALU: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will not contest in the upcoming Sabah state election, instead backing Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to ensure stability and long-term economic growth.
President Datuk Chin Su Phin said the decision followed careful study of the political and economic climate, stressing that frequent government changes only harm investor confidence and delay development.
He said Sabah should align with the federal government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, noting Sarawak’s strong parliamentary presence as a model for greater national influence.
LDP believes Sabah must increase representation in Parliament rather than focus solely on state seats.
The party urged unity among Sabahans, warning that division weakens the state’s voice in national policy.
It called on voters, especially the Chinese community, to be pragmatic and support political stability to attract investments and spur growth.
LDP said it will focus on cooperating with GRS and Pakatan Harapan, emphasizing parliamentary strength as the key to securing federal resources.
The party aims to serve as a bridge between both coalitions to build confidence among investors and promote steady, sustainable development for Sabah.
