Sabah cannot afford frequent change of government

RANAU: A situation where governments are frequently changed will result in political instability which will then disrupt the development that has been planned and started earlier.

Incumbent Karanaan State Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said that a few years before Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) took over the government, more time was spent on managing politics.

“A lot of time was wasted on managing politics because the situation was unstable. Governments changed one after another. When this happened, our job was only to play politics to ensure that we win and not lose.

“Like in a football game, to ensure that we do not lose, our job was to defend. Why? Because we are afraid of losing.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
“But when we are strong, we are united and so on, we are not afraid of facing the opposing team. There is a lot of time for us to cooperate to score goals against the opponent’s,” he said.

Similarly, said Masidi, in terms of work, when the time spent less on politics, more on developing this state, many things can be realized.

Therefore, he urged the people of this state to maintain stability in Sabah because if the government changes every five years, there will be no time to work.

“Any weakness in the government can be fixed if the government is strong. But it is difficult for any government to fix itself in an unstable political situation,” he said.

Masidi, who is also the Sabah Finance Minister, said this when officiating the Opening of the Mini Dewan Taman Saujana held here on Sunday.

Before that, he also officiated the Mini Dewan in Kg Mumpait Ranau and the Mini Dewan Kg Minansalu on the same day.

He was grateful that the Mini Dewan Taman Saujana was finally fully completed and could be used by the residents here to gather together, as well as as a venue for organizing various programs and activities.

“Congratulations to all parties who ensured that this hall was completed well and satisfactorily, just like any development planned in this district can be realized well.

“The realization of this hall today is a symbol of the integrity of our friendship where when the community and leaders unite, many things can be achieved together.

“We are able to provide facilities like this because there is a stable government and this stability gives the leaders the opportunity to manage our state’s economy,” he said.

With political stability, he said, domestic revenue will increase, thus those who are entrusted with the responsibility will have time to manage development and not just manage politics.
