LABUAN: Controversial businessman Albert Tei who has threatened to jump off the Petronas Twin Towers appears a clear case for psychiatric evaluation or to receive counselling from Befrienders, according to political activist Lau Seng Kiat.
“He must be undergoing severe mental stress since his allegations that several Sabah politicians accepted bribes seems not to be getting anywhere, except for two cases now before the courts.
“Even in those two cases he claims the politicians received money but at the same time he denied giving them any money.
“It must be the most unusual case ever referred to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission,” said Lau.
Lau believed that for Albert to go on Tik Tok to announce his suicide threat suggests his financiers are breathing down his neck for his failure to convince the politicians he allegedly bribed to influence Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji to lift the ban on mining permits,” Lau said.
He hoped security personnel at the KLCC Twin Towers are aware of the businessman’s intention. “There should be posters put up with his face near the Towers in the event he tries to slip into the skyscrapers under disguise.”
Lau said Albert’s choice of venue to carry out the threat would not be good for Petronas’ image if he does manage to pull it off.
“Worse if he falls on tourists and others passing below and cause even more fatalities since it is a busy area.”
Lau noted that most suicide cases are due either to exam pressure, business, family problem or failure in love.
“But his is different. It is connected to allegations of licences issued only for prospective mining being abused to carry out actual mining without the State Government’s knowledge or approval.”
Lau also questioned why it is taking Sabah police so long to establish whether there is basis in the reports lodged by officials of the State mining corporation that a former senior executive allegedly connived with Albert to proceed with mining, instead of just prospecting.
“Maybe that is also why Albert is going bonkers. He may be depending on the outcome of the police investigation to help his case,” said Lau.
Earlier Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) Chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdat also called for the suicide threat to be taken seriously.
