TAWAU: A 35-year-old foreigner armed with a dagger was apprehended in Kampung Serudong Laut on Wednesday following allegations he threatened to harm a local woman.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the arrest was carried out by officers from the Wallace Bay Police Station on Sebatik Island after receiving a complaint from the victim.
“The victim was acquainted with the suspect, but on the day of the incident, he became enraged after being reprimanded by the woman’s child for entering their home without permission,” he said on Thursday.
Jasmin said the suspect had initially visited the house to request food, but the child’s reprimand triggered his anger.
The man allegedly made threatening remarks, saying he would harm both the woman and her child, causing fear and distress to the family.
“Concerned for her family’s safety, the victim lodged a police report at the Wallace Bay Police Station, leading to the suspect’s arrest at a nearby oil palm plantation,” he added.
Police seized a dagger believed to be linked to the criminal intimidation case during the arrest.
