Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Datuk Chin Su Phin expressed support for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) push for discipline and unity as coalition partners prepare for crucial state election seat negotiations.
“GRS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun recently pointed out that mutual respect and rational cooperation must guide discussions among coalition members during the seat allocation process,” said Chin.
He praised Masidi’s statement as both timely and essential, noting that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has consistently championed fairness and stability within the coalition.
“Seat distribution must be determined by grassroots strength and winning ability and not by emotions or personal agendas.
“The Chief Minister has always prioritised fairness to protect unity and that approach must continue,” said Chin.
He spoke against parties contesting seats where they lack genuine support, saying such moves would only split votes and hand advantages to the opposition.
“What matters is not how many seats a party demands, but whether it has real grassroots backing and a realistic chance of winning,” he added.
Chin said that the GRS partners must operate as a unified team rather than rivals, with their shared responsibility being to deliver stable governance for Sabahans.
“The people expect maturity and solidarity from us. This is not a time for internal competition but the time for discipline and focus under Hajiji’s leadership,” he said.
He called on all GRS member parties to maintain constructive attitudes, insisting that seat negotiations should be data-driven and based on past performance rather than pressure tactics.
“The strength of the coalition lies in cooperation, not confrontation. The GRS will continue safeguarding Sabah’s stability and advancing a shared vision of progress and inclusiveness for all,” he said.
