KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) has dismissed as baseless the resurfaced allegations circulating online claiming misuse of zakat funds within its administration.
Muis president Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said in a statement on Thursday that the accusations were old and had already been investigated thoroughly on the directive of the Chief Minister and the minister in charge of religious affairs.
He said legal action had been taken against individuals spreading the defamatory claims, with court proceedings still ongoing and deserving of public respect.
Yahya stressed that Muis had fully cooperated with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the National Audit Department, both of which found no wrongdoing, adding that Muis had received five consecutive “Clean Certificates” for financial management and held ISO 9001:2015 certification since 2021.
He said Muis remained committed to integrity and transparency in managing zakat funds and would not hesitate to pursue legal action against those attempting to tarnish its reputation.
