Kota Kinabalu: The Coroner’s Court will hear the committal application for contempt of court involving Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, over his alleged remarks related to Zara Qairina Mahathir’s case, on Dec 1.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), in a statement, said the committal cause papers were served to Shafie on Nov 3 in Tawau, following the leave granted by Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan on Oct 23.
According to AGC, Shafie is required to respond to the statement and supporting affidavits within 14 days, in accordance with Order 52 Rule 3(2) of the Rules of Court 2012.
In previous proceedings, the prosecution told the coroner that a show-cause notice was served on Shafie on Sept 23 and he had responded via a letter from his counsel dated Sept 29.
The same date also had been fixed to hear the same alleged offence, linked to the ongoing inquest into the death of Zara, for Che Muna Din, also known as Mona Din.
The cause papers had been served to Che Muna on Nov 1 morning at her residence in Shah Alam, Selangor.
On Oct 23 this year, the coroner had granted the AGC’s leave to commence contempt proceedings against former Chief Minister Shafie and activist Che Muna, following submissions by Deputy Public Prosecutors Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalan and Nadia Mohd Izhar.
