Man jailed for stealing car rims
The offence, under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of between one and seven years, and liability of a fine, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old man was jailed 12 months by the Magistrate’s Court here for stealing car rims.

Electrician Joenathan Junior pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to stealing a rim belonging to Nur Shafiezzah Maskir Abdullah at a house in Kg Kionsom, Inanam, near here, at 11am, on Oct 22.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Kareena Kaur Gill Karamjit Singh informed the court that the complainant discovered three rims from her Honda Accord missing from her home and suspected they had been stolen.

Upon checking her neighbour’s CCTV footage, the complainant saw a man, later identified as Joenathan taking the rims. 

When asked to return them, he refused to cooperate.

Acting on a police report lodged by the complainant, Joenathan was arrested by police on Oct 23.

Duty counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Joenathan, requested a lenient sentence as he was remorseful, adding that he is married with two children and that his wife is currently five months pregnant.

The prosecution applied for a deterrent sentence.

The court ordered Joenathan to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

Meanwhile, in another case, a 36-year-old paperless Filipino pleaded not guilty in the same court to assaulting his wife.

Ariffin Abdul Rasa was accused of voluntarily causing injuries to his 43-year-old wife, at 1.30pm, on Oct 24 in a rented room at a building in Asia City, here.

The offence, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.

The court fixed Jan 5 for mention and denied bail as the accused had no identification documents.
