KUDAT: The completion of the new Community Centre in Kg Tinangol marks an important step for the rural community here, said Camps International Asia Director Rory Hall.
He said this centre represents the close partnership between Camps International and the Kg Tinangol community.
“We are pleased to hand over this facility, which will continue to serve and support the residents in years to come,” he said during the handover ceremony, here, recently.
The ceremony, organised by Camp Borneo, was attended by representatives from Camp Borneo, Pacos Trust’s Ruffina Koyou and the Kg Tinangol community.
Located in one of Sabah’s poorer rural areas, Kg Tinangol has about 100 households who depend mainly on small-scale farming. Before the project, the villagers had no proper place to hold meetings or community events.
Village head Rasti Surumpit thanked Camp Borneo for its support, saying the new hall provides a suitable space for gatherings and activities.
Construction began in 2017 with help from local tradesmen and volunteers but was delayed due to the pandemic before reaching completion this year.
Camp Borneo’s collaboration with Kampung Tinangol started in 2008 through Pacos Trust. Since then, the organisation’s volunteers have worked with the community on projects to improve access to clean water, housing, and basic welfare.
Camp Borneo Travel and Tours Country General Manager Melanie Chu, who also attended the event, expressed appreciation for the villagers’ cooperation and hospitality.
She said the people of Tinangol have always welcomed Camp Borneo teams, students, and teachers warmly during their visits to the village.
