LABUAN: The popular Labuan-Menumbok speedboat will increase fares by RM3 (one-way), effective today (Nov 1).
Persatuan Pengusaha Boy-Bot Laju Menumbok (PPBBL) announced this in a posting in the social media and attributed the hike to fuel surcharge (Bahan Bakar).
With the surcharge imposed, the new travel fare between the two terminals will be RM 12 (Malaysians) and RM 19.50 (non-Malaysians) for one-way compared to RM 9 and RM 16.50.
“The hike is both surprising and confusing, and needs to be clarified by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, because under the Budi Madani programme fuel subsidy had been extended to eligible boat operators and fishermen as their services are seen vital, especially in Sabah and Sarawak,” said ex-serviceman Vincent Pereira.
