LAHAD DATU: A car caught fire following an early morning accident along Jalan Silam near Kampung Bumiputera.
The incident, reported at 5.47am, involved a Proton Saga that sustained about 10 per cent damage to its engine compartment.
The sole occupant managed to exit the vehicle safely before the fire spread and was unharmed.
Local residents managed to extinguish the flames using water from nearby pipes before the arrival of Lahad Datu firefighters.
A team of eight firefighters and police personnel later confirmed the scene was safe, ending the operation at 6.30am.
