Kota Kinabalu: The Starry Night Charity Dinner at the Sabah Hakka Hall on Sunday featured four Hong Kong celebrities — actors Hugo Wong, 43, and Owen Cheung, 38, and actresses Elaine Yiu, 44, and Moon Lau, 36. The latter is also second runner-up of the 2013 Miss Hong Kong Pageant.
The fans in the 1,100-strong audience went into a frenzy the moment the four made their dramatic entrance on stage, thrilling the diners with their renditions and the final performance entitled Red Sun, a modern Cantonese song regarded as a Hong Kong’s classic.
Organising Chairperson Datin Elaine Fong Yee Ling expressed appreciation to all donors, sponsors and supporters who have contributed to the success of the charity dinner.
She presented donations totalling RM105,000 to five beneficiaries, including Sri Pritchard Old Folks Home, Starfish Malaysia Foundation, and Sabah Society for the Deaf.
Other highlights of the evening included the Magunatip, a Murut bamboo traditional dance, a 24 Festival Drums Performance, an interactive game play between the artistes and members of the audience, and lucky draws.
Present were the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Josie Lai, Sabah Tourism Board Deputy CEO Tay Shu Lan, who represented the CEO Julinus Jeffery Jimit, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) Tan Sri T.C. Goh and other Chinese community leaders like Tan Sri Paul Lim, Datuk Clement Yeh, and Datuk Li Su Fook.
