Mount Kinabalu Climbathon: Tambunan’s Don, Hong Kong’s Yeung grab top spots
Donal clocked 48 minutes and 48 seconds.
Kundasang: Donal Rodanldi Lasius from Tambunan and Yeung Mei Lin from Hong won the Men’s Open and Women’s Open categories in the Timpohon Run 2025 lheld here on Saturday.

Donal clocked 48 minutes and 48 seconds to win the Men’s Open category, while Yeung dominated the Women’s Open category with a finishing time of 1 hour, 14 minutes, and 35 seconds.

The run held at the Kinabalu National Park, marked a thrilling start to the Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon weekend.

It sets the tone for an action-packed celebration of endurance and mountain adventure.

Starting from Kinabalu Hall, runners ascended to Timpohon Gate, continued along the Mempening Trails, passed Liwagu Restaurant, and returned to Kinabalu Hall. 

Yeung clocked 1 hour, 14 minutes, and 35 seconds.

The route combined scenic beauty with physical challenge, giving participants a true taste of running on the slopes of Mount Kinabalu.

Participants were given four hours and 30 minutes to complete the course, with sweepers ensuring all runners safely returned to the finish line.

Top performers in the Men’s and Women’s Open Categories were awarded cash prizes of RM500, RM400, RM300, RM200, and RM150 for first through fifth place.

Organised as part of the Climbathon weekend, the Timpohon Run continues to uphold its goal of promoting eco-adventure tourism, community participation, and Sabah’s unique mountain culture.

Flagged off by the Chief Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Environment Sabah, Hisham bin Ujang, the Timpohon Run 2025 drew a diverse group of runners eager to take on the 9.8 km challenge within the UNESCO Global Geopark.

The excitement continues the next day with the 32nd Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon, where elite and amateur runners will test their endurance on one of the world’s most iconic mountain race routes.
