KOTA KINABALU: Lawyers representing Noraidah Lamat, mother of the late Zara Qairina, have accused authorities of conducting a flawed and narrow investigation into the teenager’s death.
Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri claim no post-mortem was done before Zara’s burial, her clothes and personal items were not seized as evidence, and witness statements were taken late.

They also allege a leak from the investigation file, citing a so-called “diary” that fuelled damaging rumours on social media.
In a letter to the Attorney General today, they urged that the case be reopened, handled by experienced Bukit Aman officers, Zara’s grave exhumed for an autopsy, and a formal inquest held to determine possible foul play.
They stressed that Noraidah seeks only justice for her daughter, pledging full cooperation with police and handing over Zara’s belongings today.
The case has sparked public solidarity through peaceful gatherings, petitions, songs, and social media campaigns.
