Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Council of Churches will be organising its annual Walk for Jesus charity event at 4pm on Aug 24. It will be held simultaneously in 26 towns across the State.
The walk, held in Sabah since 1999, aims to share Christian love and compassion for the community while raising funds to support the work of the Sabah Council of Churches, local inter-church groups, and the Prison Fellowship Sabah Association (PFSA).

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Pastor Edmund Kumar said the event carries a powerful message of restoration and hope.
“This walk is not only about unity among churches, it’s about bringing light into the lives of those who need it most.
“The work of PFSA in helping prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families is crucial in removing the stigma of incarceration and reminding them of God’s love,” he said.
The highlight of this year’s event in Kota Kinabalu will be the flag-off at Padang Merdeka by the Chief Minister, the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu, several Members of Parliament, and church leaders.
The 4km walk will take participants through key landmarks in the city, including Kampung Air, Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), the former High Court, Community Centre, and Australia Place, before returning to Padang Merdeka.
Pastor Edmund revealed that the churches in Kota Kinabalu are expecting a strong turnout of 4,000 participants, making it one of the largest faith-based gatherings in the city this year.
“This is a community walk with a spiritual purpose. It shows the strength of the Christian community in Sabah, not only in worship but also in service to society,” Pastor Edmund added.
The walk is inspired by the Bible verse John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.”
All are welcome to join or support the cause to help bring hope and healing to those in need.
