The Malaysian Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) appealed to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to help bring home six Sabahans stranded in Cambodia after escaping from a scam syndicate there.

MHO Secretary-General Dato’ Hishamuddin Hashim said a representative, Azirul Shafiq Sazali, went to Cambodia recently on a humanitarian mission to bring back Malaysian victims.

“However, they (victims) were unable to return due to documentation problems with the Cambodian authorities.

“They are in a tight spot right now because they are running out of money. They ran to save themselves and escaped with almost nothing.

“Now they have no money for food and accommodation. They are also unable to pay the Cambodian immigration fees or tickets back to Malaysia,” he said in a statement.

According to Hisham, the group fell victim to a job scam that offered work in the hotel industry but then were forced to work as scammers.

“MHO humbly requests the Chief Minister to help these Sabahans return as soon as possible.

“The are in dire need of financial assistance to return to the homeland, especially paying the Cambodian immigration fees and also the cost of flight tickets home,” he added.
