Covid-19: Two more Sabah deaths and clusters, 1,123 new cases nationwide
PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 1,123 Covid-19 cases and four deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,143 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 60,204.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the 1,123 cases brought the total number of infections in the country to 71,359.

Meanwhile, the four deaths bring the toll to 380 so far.

Sabah reported the highest number of cases today with 391 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (265) and Selangor (221).

Noor Hisham said most of the cases in Sabah were from existing clusters, including the newly identified Batu Tiga and Jalan Domis clusters.

Meanwhile, the majority of the cases in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor came from existing clusters, close contact tracing and other Covid-19 screenings in both states.

Of today’s cases, 40 came from temporary detention clusters, namely the Sibuga cluster in Sabah and the Tembok cluster in Kedah with 27 and 13 cases each respectively.

Other states and federal territories with new cases reported today were Johor (66), Penang (44), Perak (39), Kelantan (35), Kedah (30), Negeri Sembilan (10), Labuan (10), Putrajaya (four), Pahang (two) and Sarawak (one).

On the four deaths, Noor Hisham said they were three Malaysians and one foreigner from Sabah, Johor and Selangor. They were aged between 46 to 75.

All of them had a history of chronic illnesses.

There are currently 10,775 active cases, with 130 patients receiving intensive care, of which 54 require respiratory assistance.

Terengganu and Perlis did not record any new cases today.

Out of the 1,123 cases today, only five were imported cases.

The health ministry has detected four new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are the Batu Tiga and Jalan Domis clusters in Sabah, the Andalas cluster in Selangor, and the Bulatan construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur.

In a statement today, he said the index case of the Batu Tiga cluster in the Tawau district of Sabah was detected on Nov 17 after the patient exhibited symptoms. A total of 28 people have been screened, with all of them testing positive.

For the Jalan Domis cluster in Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tongod districts in Sabah, the index case was reported on Nov 29 as a result of close contact screening. A total of 132 individuals have been screened, of which 12 cases have tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the index case in the Andalas cluster in Klang, Selangor, was detected after an individual tested positive on Dec 3. A total of 43 people have been screened, with 16 testing positive.

For the Bulatan construction site cluster, the index case was reported on Dec 2 after screening before travelling abroad. A total of 319 people have been screened, with 163 testing positive.
