TAWAU: A block of hostel housing  26th Malaysian Royal Malay Regiment Military trainees at Kem Kukusan, Jalan Tanjung Batu Tengah, near here, was razed, leaving one injured in the 4.30am incident, Monday.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Zulbada Alior in a statement said the victim suffered minor head injuries while saving himself and was given treatment by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team.

“A total of 13 firefighters led by Senior Officer Suheizan Sahak as the Operations Commander were deployed to the location along with four utility trucks and a water tanker upon receiving an emergency call made via MERS999 at 4.50am.

“The team conducted a final inspection to ensure that there was no more source of fire that can trigger fire hazards before completely ending the operation at 6.01am.

“The cause of the fire and the estimated amount of losses are still under investigation,” he said.
