Kota Kinabalu: Two men were jailed a total of 23 months on two counts of disposing of stolen boat engines.
Nursadam Md Yusuf, 29, and Filipino Md Nurrazmi Ghadafi were sentenced to 13 months jail after they pleaded guilty to disposing of a stolen boat engine belonging to one Sidre Mubin at 3am on May 14 at a house in Kg Kesuapan, Pulau Gaya.
Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles was informed by the prosecution that the boat engine was reported stolen from a jetty of Kg Kesuapan by its owner who realised it missing on May 14 at noon.
Both Nursadam and Nurrazmi were arrested by marine police following an information at 6.08pm the same day, said Inspector Lim Swee Beng.
They led the police to the recovery of the stolen engine, which was later positively identified by its owner, the court heard.
Nursadam and Nurrazmi, who were unrepresented, requested for leniency.
In another court, Nursadam, Nurrazmi and another man Abd Aziz Nistul, 52, were handed 10 months jail each for disposing of another stolen boat engine belonging to one Saiful Hairuzi at 8.30am on May 14 at Kg Pondo, Pulau Gaya.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie heard that the boat engine was reported stolen from a jetty at Kg Pasir Putih in Putatan on April 14.
Nursadam, Nurrazmi and Aziz, confessed to have sold the engines for money.
They were ordered to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest and that Nurrazmi was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.
They were charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between six months and seven years and liability of a fine on conviction.
Meanwhile, six people were penalised for having syabu.
They were Nazreen Janin, Maclean Joseph, Irwan Jeikin, Malcome Lance, Rahim Batjo and Salfazrin Ayer pleaded guilty to having the drugs weighing between 0.04gm and 0.19gm at separate locations here, Petagas and Putatan between Dec 6 last year and March 8.
Maclean was handed 11 months, Nazreen, Malcome and Rahim were jailed 10 months each and Salfarin was sentenced to eight months’ jail.
Irwan was fined RM2,800 or 10 months jail.
