Kota Kinabalu: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) hopes more Chinese and Indians will consider the police force as a career.
Visiting Selangor Police Chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said at the graduation of 248 recruits who completed their six-month training at the State Pulapol, here, Saturday, that only two were Chinese and 90 Indians. The rest were Malays and other bumiputras. The new recruits comprise 134 from Sabah, 28 from Sarawak and the rest from peninsula.
Noor Azam said PDRM is still striving for a multiracial police force. “Our society is multi-racial, so we need more of them to join PDRM.
“We always give encouragement and support so that more will join. They can apply online through civil service Commission (SPA). Please apply, but apply with interest,” he said, after the ceremony.
All the recruits underwent basic training for constables and many had good academic backgrounds. “They were taught about the law, marching and the use of firearms, among others.
“An saying goes ‘in critical times, your best friend is your knowledge’. Make use of the knowledge, skills and competencies through the six-month basic training, surely all challenges in the workplace will be overcome,” he said.
Noor Azam said upon completion of training, they will be placed in contingents or formation throughout Malaysia.
He urged the recruits to transform themselves into being police officers, be high spirited and ensure the country’s security and sovereignty are upheld.
Meanwhile, three trainees were awarded best academic participant, the best external training participant and the best overall participant. They were Constable Amirul Haqim Abu Hanifah, Constable Luqman Hakim Fadzil and Constable Mohd Abduln Hayei Shamsudin, respectively.
