SANDAKAN: Seven individuals were arrested in three separate anti-narcotics operations across the district in early June.
The crackdowns were carried out under Op Tapis Narkotik by the Sandakan District Police Headquarters’ (IPD) Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID).
In the latest operation on June 4 at 11pm in the Kampung Lupak Meluas area, Jalan Batu Sapi, a man was arrested for possession of drugs suspected to be methamphetamine or syabu.
The suspect was detained under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 before being taken to the Sandakan IPD NCID office to undergo an initial urine screening test.
He tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, subsequently leading to his detention under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952.
Meanwhile, in operations carried out on June 2 at 11pm in the area of MPS Karamunting Flats, Jalan Batu Sapi, as well as Jalan BDC, Mile 1½, police arrested three men.
One of them was arrested for possession of methamphetamine under Section 12(2) of the DDA 1952, while two others were detained on suspicion of involvement in drug abuse activities.
All suspects then underwent initial urine screening tests which found them positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, before being detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952.
In another operation on June 1 at 10.30am in Kampung Melayu, Mile 8 and Kampung PPH Karamunting, the Sandakan IPD NCID arrested three men, including one found in possession of syabu.
Two other individuals were detained on suspicion of involvement in drug abuse activities.
All seven suspects detained during the operations are currently held at the Sandakan IPD police lock-up to assist with further investigations.
