Kota Kinabalu: Members of the Sabah Big Bikers Association (SBBA) have been urged to close ranks and move forward as one team following its recently concluded Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election for the 2026-2028 term.
SBBA’s newly-elected President Datuk Osman Ahmed
(pic) who made the call said members should put aside factionalism for the interest of SBBA with no “Team A” or “Team B” within the association.
He emphasised that unity and brotherhood must remain the cornerstone of the organisation.
“Let’s strengthen our ranks and rebuild our team spirit so that any programmes or activities for SBBA could be implemented smoothly.
“There should be no divisions and disputes in the association as we move forward together and uphold the spirit of brotherhood in the biking community,” he said.
Osman who was re-elected for the third time as the association’s president, said this to reporters after the AGM was concluded here, recently.
The new SBBA Deputy President is Abing Hamid, while Vice President is Alimuddin Liase, followed by Honorary Secretary Norazley Ammat who won uncontested together with Treasurer-General Adam Syafiq Saludin also won uncontested while Rithaudeen Ali as the Deputy Secretary, Deputy Treasurer is Nurjin Ujud, Executive Secretary Mohd Dzulasyraf Jame and 15 committee members including three appointed by the President and two auditors.
The association recently completed its AGM, which Osman described as smooth, orderly and well organised.
Nonetheless, he said the SBBA’s AGM this year was somewhat different from previous years, as members’ turnout was exceptionally high.
“Many motorcycle enthusiasts, fans and owners of high-powered motorcycles in Sabah, who are members of the association, took the time to participate in the election process.
“Attendance exceeded the required quorum, with more than two-thirds of members present. In fact, about 80 per cent of members attended the AGM, which reflects strong attendance and a healthy democratic process and shows that members are keen to contribute to the association’s future leadership,” he said.
On the background of the SBBA, he said SBBA was formerly known as the Sabah Big Bike Club (SBBC) that was established around 1999 or 2000 before being rebranded as SBBA in 2012.
He said the association remains the only big bike organisation in Sabah registered under the Malaysian Sports Commissioner’s Office and has earned a three-star recognition rating for its management and governance standards.
Looking ahead, Osman called on members to continue supporting the association’s programmes and activities despite current economic challenges.
Among the events planned this year, he said are participation in the Miri International Bike Festival on Aug 30 and celebrations marking SBBA’s 25th Silver Jubilee.
“As part of the anniversary celebrations, we plan to honour our founders and veteran members by recognising them as ’Legend Members’ and giving them lifetime membership in SBBA as recognition for their contributions to the association.
“The Silver Jubilee programme is also expected to feature a bikers festival, leisure rides and corporate social responsibility activities, including contributions to selected welfare homes,” he said.
Osman added that the association is exploring a proposed “360 Ride” programme next year in conjunction with Visit Sabah Year 2027, aimed at promoting Sabah and the wider Borneo region, including Kalimantan, as tourism destinations.
“The proposed 360 Ride is still in the planning stage and has not yet been finalised.
“If time and financial resources permit, the programme is expected to be held next year in conjunction with the Visit Sabah Year campaign.
“Through the programme, we hope to help promote Sabah and Borneo as tourism destinations, including Kalimantan,” he added.
