Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) secured its first court convictions under the Integrated Ops Tiris 4.0 operation involving offences under the Supply Control Act 1961.
Sabah KPDN director Shahril Nizam Shahidin said three individuals were fined a total of RM49,000, with a cumulative default imprisonment term of 11 months, after pleading guilty in separate proceedings at the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court on Thursday to dealing in controlled goods, namely diesel, without a valid licence.
He said 30-year-old Dickson Yii Hung Tie was fined RM30,000 or six months' imprisonment in default, while Dickson and 35-year-old Abd Rahman Muluk were each fined RM8,000 or two months' imprisonment in default, and all fines were paid.
Shahril said 41-year-old Aznan Abd Rahim was fined RM3,000 or four weeks' imprisonment in default, which was also paid, adding that all three accused were charged under Regulation 3(1) of the Supply Control Regulations 1974 read together with Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961.
He said the court ordered the proceeds from the sale of the diesel to be forfeited to the Government of Malaysia and the vehicles used in the offences to be handed over to KPDN for forfeiture proceedings, while urging the public to report any smuggling, misuse or misappropriation of controlled goods through KPDN's official complaint channels.
