SANDAKAN: Sabah Head of State Tun Musa Aman recently inspected the construction of the Sabah Islamic Centre at Batu 7, Kampung Sungai Kayu, which is now almost complete.
During the nearly two-hour visit, Musa was briefed on the project by consultant Haji Mir Zafriz Datuk Haji Mior Zawari. The centre is currently about 90 per cent finished and will include a mosque, multipurpose hall, tahfiz institution, and other facilities under one complex.
Also present were Sungai Manila assemblyman Datuk Hazem Mubarak, Sandakan Municipal Council President Datuk Walter Kenson, and senior state officials.
Construction began in 2018, and the centre is expected to become a new landmark and tourist attraction in Sandakan due to its unique concept of combining multiple facilities in a single development.
Musa emphasized the importance of timely completion, noting that local residents have awaited the project for several years. He expressed hope that the centre would serve the community and contribute to the district’s development once operational.
