‘Ensure RM1.5 billion received this year’
Chin urged that the RM1.5 billion grant be prioritised for replacing old water pipes, upgrading water treatment and distribution systems, road rehabilitation, and improving drainage and flood control.
Kota Kinabalu: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has urged the Federal Government to ensure that the recently announced RM1.5 billion Special Interim Payment for Sabah is fully disbursed within this year to enable critical infrastructure projects to proceed without delay.

LDP President Datuk Chin Su Phin welcomed the increase from RM600 million to RM1.5 billion, highlighting that the significance of the allocation lies not only in the amount but also in the speed of its release.

“Recognition alone is not enough. Rights recognised must also be implemented. The people must be able to see tangible improvements on the ground,” he said, stressing that timely disbursement is essential to turn plans into reality.

Chin warned that Sabah’s infrastructure challenges ranging from ageing water systems and deteriorating roads to inadequate drainage and flood mitigation have reached a critical stage.
