KOTA KINABALU: Police detained 18 men over two linked fights in Kampung Air early Thursday, including one where a man in his 20s was stabbed in the calf with a suspected stingray spine.
Acting city police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Abdul Rahman said the violence began around 4am at a food outlet after a dispute escalated, with the victim injured while trying to intervene. He is in stable condition.

“Police take seriously any acts of violence that threaten public safety and will take firm action,” he said.
A second fight occurred about an hour later at the same location, leaving another man with a bruised nose. The case is being investigated under Sections 148 and 324 of the Penal Code.
