BEAUFORT: A motorcyclist was killed after losing control of his bike and crashing into a pickup truck parked beside the Mantabawan River Bridge along the Kuala Penyu–Bandau Road on Monday.

Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said preliminary investigations found that the victim was travelling from Kuala Penyu towards Bandau when he reportedly lost control while negotiating a bend at about 8.30pm.

The 25-year-old man from Kampung Kerukan, Kuala Penyu, suffered severe head and rib injuries. He was rushed to Kuala Penyu Hospital but was pronounced dead at 11.50pm while receiving treatment.

The motorcycle is believed to have first scraped a concrete road barrier on the left side of the road before skidding forward and crashing into the rear right side of a pickup truck parked on the bridge.

The pickup truck owner was not in the vehicle at the time as he was fishing nearby and was unharmed.

Champin advised the public, especially anglers, not to park vehicles on road shoulders or near bridges such as Sungai Sitompok Bridge and Sungai Mantabawan Bridge, as it can endanger other road users, particularly at night.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
