The court unanimously ruled that there was no basis to interfere with the conviction and sentence imposed by the lower courts.
Zaim was sentenced by the High Court in Labuan on Feb 16, 2023, to life imprisonment (30 years) and 15 strokes of the cane after being found guilty of the offence committed at 12.30pm on May 15, 2020 at a house in Taman Mutiara, Sg Bedaun, Jalan Bebuloh, Labuan.
The charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act.
He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on May 15, 2020.
Zaim’s co-accused, his wife Najihah Karno, was freed by the High Court on Nov 2, 2022 without her defence being called.
His appeal to the Court of Appeal was previously dismissed on May 19, 2025, with the conviction and sentence upheld.
Zaim was represented by counsel Luke Ressa Balang, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Eyu Ghim Siang appeared for the prosecution.
