SANDAKAN: The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) of the Sandakan District Police Headquarters (IPD) has intensified efforts to combat drug abuse through a series of Ops Tapis operations conducted across the district throughout early May.
In the first operation on May 1 at about 11.10pm, an NCID team from IPD Sandakan carried out Ops Tapis in the Bandar Letat Jaya area and Kampung Sungai Kayu, Batu 7.

The operation resulted in the arrest of two men suspected of possessing Methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu. The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952.
Two other men were also detained for allegedly consuming drugs.
Meanwhile, from May 2 until the early hours of May 3, the NCID operations team once again conducted Ops Tapis in Kampung Sungai Kayu, Batu 7.
During the operation, one man was arrested for allegedly possessing Methamphetamine, with the case also being investigated under Section 12(2) of the DDA 1952.
At a nearby location, another man was detained for suspected drug abuse.
In a separate operation on May 5 between 11am and 2pm, NCID personnel from IPD Sandakan carried out enforcement activities around Sandakan town centre and the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) area at Taman Harmoni, Batu 3.
The operation led to the arrest of two men suspected of involvement in dangerous drug abuse activities.
All suspects were brought to the NCID office at IPD Sandakan for preliminary urine screening tests.
Police said the test results found all suspects positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. The cases are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952.
All suspects are currently being remanded at the Sandakan IPD lockup to assist further investigations.
The continued implementation of Ops Tapis reflects the commitment of Sandakan District Police Chief ACP George Abd Rakman in combating crime and drug abuse in the district.
