RM100K cable theft suspect held in Beaufort
BEAUFORT: A man has been arrested on suspicion of sabotage and cable theft at a substation near the Chinese Cemetery in Kampung Asam Jawa, Menumbok, causing estimated losses of more than RM100,000 to Sabah Electricity.

Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh on Sunday, said the suspect was detained during an operation along Jalan Kampung Melikai on Saturday.

He said early investigations found that the suspect allegedly tampered with the substation’s lock before cutting off the electricity supply and stripping copper cables and transformer components from the site.

“The suspect’s actions caused estimated losses of more than RM100,000 to Sabah Electricity,” he said.

During the raid, police seized several items linked to the case, including cut cables, wire, a Yamaha 40HP outboard engine and a petrol drum believed to have been used in the operation.

Preliminary investigations also found that the suspect admitted to involvement in several other cable theft cases in Beaufort and Kuala Penyu.
