PENAMPANG: Penampang Member of Parliament, Datuk Ewon Benedick, has allocated RM70,000 to two organisations to support community programmes in the district.
Ewon, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III and State Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, said the funds are intended to assist planned initiatives by both groups.
He said RM50,000 from his parliamentary allocation was channelled to the Kadazandusun Language Foundation (KLF), in line with a commitment made during the International Mother Language Day celebration in February.
An additional RM20,000 was provided as an initial allocation to the Penampang Retirees Association following earlier engagements with the group.
He expressed hope that the contributions would support the implementation of programmes by both organisations.
The funds were presented on his behalf by Penampang MP Service Centre Liaison Officer, Bryan Matasing, at the service centre recently.
KLF Chief Executive Officer, Rita Lasimbang, expressed appreciation for the continued support. She said the contribution would be used to enhance the Kadazan-English-Malay Webonary launched in conjunction with International Mother Language Day on Feb 21.
According to her, the platform contains more than 30,000 Kadazan entries and nearly 29,000 Malay entries, aimed at addressing the decline in Kadazan language speakers in Sabah.
Meanwhile, Sabah Government Retirees Association (Penampang District) Coordinating Chairman, Lawrence Misi, also conveyed appreciation. He said the allocation would support association activities, including programmes in conjunction with the International Day of Older Persons in October.
