Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Police Commissioner’s Cup Karate Championship 2026 concluded with the Sabah PGA Brigade emerging as overall champions in a competition involving PDRM contingents across the State.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun officiated the closing ceremony at the Multipurpose Hall of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters on Monday.
The two-day championship, which began on Sunday, saw participation from all PDRM Sabah contingents, including the Sabah PGA Brigade and Pulapol Kota Kinabalu.
In the Men’s Open Kata event, the Sabah PGA Brigade secured the championship, while IPD Semporna finished as runners-up, with IPD Kota Kinabalu and Pulapol Kota Kinabalu sharing third place.
The Women’s Open Kata category was dominated by IPD Labuan, which took both first and second place, while third place was shared by Pulapol Kota Kinabalu and IPD Ranau.
In the Men’s Kumite (PKP) event, IPD Sandakan emerged as champions, followed by IPD Semporna in second place, while third place was shared by the Sabah PGA Brigade and IPD Tenom.
The Women’s Kumite (PKP) category saw IPD Kota Belud take the title, with IPD Tuaran as runners-up and IPD Ranau alongside IPD Kota Kinabalu in third place.
IPD Kota Belud continued its strong showing by winning the Women’s Team Kumite Open event, while IPD Kota Kinabalu placed second and IPD Labuan together with the Sabah Brigade shared third place.
In the Men’s Team Kumite event, the Sabah Brigade secured another victory, followed by IPD Kota Kinabalu in second place, with IPD Lahad Datu and Pulapol Kota Kinabalu sharing third place.
Overall, the Sabah PGA Brigade topped the championship standings, followed by IPD Kota Belud in second place and IPD Labuan in third.
The closing ceremony was enlivened with an Individual Kata performance by Adik NYR Rasyiqah Fari’ah Razmi (Kata UNSU), followed by a Women’s Team Kata display by the Sabah Karate Association comprising Adik Bibi Aysha Muhammad Zain, Adik Nur Shaheen Izazi Imtiaz and Adik Nur Rasyiqah Fari’ah Razmi, featuring Gojushiho-Sho and Bunkai.
A symbolic highlight saw Datuk Jauteh Dikun dressed in a karate Gi and black belt before breaking a demonstration board, symbolising firmness, courage and the spirit of PDRM personnel.
In his speech, he said the championship served as a platform to identify new karate talents and to strengthen sportsmanship, unity and identity among personnel.
He also congratulated the organising committee, led by Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim and DSP Sabrina Jinius, as well as all participants for their commitment and performance.
Also present were Deputy Sabah Police Commissioner DCP Datuk Abdul Rani Alias, heads of department, district police chiefs, senior officers, junior officers and civilian personnel.
